Interview - Kreed: The World Beyond

XtF: I Welcome. Be presented, please, and tell a little about itself?
AB: Greetings. I Alexander Borodetsky. The programmer, I am engaged in development AI for project Kreed.

XtF: Theme of our interview will be game Kreed. We shall start with simple - with a plot. When there will be an action of game for whom we play also what our final purpose in game?
AB: Action of game will occur in the far future when people in a sufficient measure have learnt space and sacrament of moving in it. People began to create colonies which reached far beyond solar system. Subsequently these colonies have not missed an opportunity to declare own independence, and on this ground to quarrel with a parent planet and planets, ideologically and territorially close to the Earth. Colonies were united and began to name themselves Confederation. The further development of these parties occured in constant confrontation, and more numerous and variegated Confederation in development strongly overtook the Earth. After the expiration of some time the parties had to be united in a coalition before the person of the uniform and dangerous enemy - empire Tiglaari. Between empire and people fierce war, what take away set of lifes has inflamed... Eventually, "we" as always have won. The truth a victory this, was connected not to courage of people, either their numerical or technological superiority. The victory has come as though itself - once Tiglaari have unexpectedly receded. Their waste was connected to prompt growth hitherto an insignificant abnormal zone which was nearby to basic forces Tiglaari. This zone in a consequence was named Kreed. Expanding, Kreed began to absorb all and all without analysis - whether it be Tiglaari or People. As a result of it without limit, heroic war between People and Tiglaari gradually has died away, and itself Kreed was surrounded with a quarantine ring. As to the main hero we for one Legion from confidential shall play agents, the organization which is the basic military force of a parent planet. The agent call Daniel Grok, and to him strongly has not carried - the task of him: to go in Kreed and it is severe to punish one Legion from turncoats. The choice has fallen on him, owing to his low moral qualities and deep drunkenness.

XtF: As far as the plot will be linear, how many outcomes will be stipulated in game?
AB: The plot is linear and accordingly an outcome only one - full triumph of the main hero.

XtF: Whether will be in game according to last style, an RPG element, that is whether there will be at the hero any characteristics etc.?
AB: No. We are conservative enough.

XtF: With whom who is necessary to struggle to our character, who is our enemies?
AB: The player will struggle with all variety of essences which will rise for a way of performance his confidential and very important missions. Generally it will be people though about third of all weight of our foes make inhumanoid races.

XtF: As far as our enemies will be clever, there will be no they simple meat and - lja Serious Sam where the enemy took not quality, and amount?
AB: Precisely I can tell, amount enemies will not take. They will be clever so as far as it is necessary and it is possible. Also I want to notice, that Kreed's AI, as against many FPS, whether not scripting type. That is we do not describe action of each separate boat depending on that there has come the player on the trigger whether or not. All process of introduction of a boat on a level consists that the designer of levels simply marks that place on a map where the boat and what his type should be born. After birth the boat completely is given to itself and chooses the behaviour according to developing conditions.

XtF: Whether skirmishes between enemies and what reaction of battling enemies to occurrence of the hero will be are possible?
AB: Yes. Naturally. All characters in game are divided into parties and these parties among themselves can be either are hostile, or are not present. If the boat of one party is crossed with characters of a hostile party between them there is a skirmish. The player concerns to one of parties, therefore for a boat he no more than the character hostilely adjusted to him.

XtF: Whether and there will be conflicts between representatives of the same race?
AB: If I have correctly understood a question, yes. People will battle to people.

XtF: Whether essences hostile to us together can operate, having coordinated the actions?
AB: Yes. Basic chesspiece Kreed's AI is interaction in group. Actually language for the description of behaviour of boats is based on concept group. I.e. the description of behaviour of opponents begins with the description of group, distribution of roles of all boats in it, and only then the description of actions of each boat in a context of the role.

XtF: Probably such, what enemies suddenly will arrange to the main hero an ambush or they on such are not capable?
AB: All depends on type of a boat. I.e. to what race he belongs. Each race has the character of conducting fight. For example, "Shooting Spiggs" on character malicious hiding man. At a meeting of the enemy they are hidden for covers, run across between them, try to go to the player in rear. Can be frightened and escape. "Confederation" are more brave but, despite of it not to ask for troubles. "Bitting Shpiggs" it is full numskulls, in literal sense gun meat. Their behaviour, it is crowd to bring down on the enemy. If the crowd is not present, either to escape or to be hidden for doors or boxes and to wait for the player.

XtF: What reaction of enemies to the weapon which is held in hands by the player?
AB: Reaction varies. The player with "G.R.E.N.D.E.L." most likely will frighten boats, and in a forehead hardly who will attack.

XtF: If at the opponent cartridges what his reaction will be will suddenly be finished: whether he will run far away or will proceed in hand-to-hand if will survive?
AB: Heh. At boats it is a lot of cartridges, therefore they hardly will be finished. At least, at the present moment it so.

XtF: All of us about enemies, yes about enemies. And whether there will be at our hero allies who will help to pass in Mission?
AB: Yes allies will be. And all of them intrigue are proved.

XtF: What their reaction to an event will be, for example, feeling what overweight of forces on the party of the enemy, whether they I shall recede or nevertheless will be trambled straight?
AB: The intelligence of boats of allies nothing differs from intelligence of our opponents. Unique difference of their behaviour it that allies follow the player if not see opponents.

XtF: How many kinds of the weapon will be in game and the most important, what: invented or existing, own or a standard set?
AB: All weapon is invented by us. In total kinds 10.

XtF: Whether are possible at the weapon of the misfire?
AB: This question is not authorized yet and demands detailed testing. Some types will overheat.

XtF: Let's proceed to a technical part of game. On what engine you develop game and if it is possible it would be desirable to find out its basic features.
AB: The engine refers to "XTend". We develop it. Its features: Pixel and vertex shaders Dynamic light and shadows Realistic physics Intensively used bump mapping Engine modularity Graphic part modularity of a engine

XtF: What minimal system requirements for Kreed, you see by screenshots and to video-rollers game will be pleased exacting, and you count what videocard optimum for normal game.
AB: Optimum requirements: PIII-1000 ÌÃö, 512 Mb of the RAM and a videocard of 6-th generation (ATI Radeon 8500, GeForce 3). Minimal requirements: PIII-600 ÌÃö, 256 Mb of the RAM and a videocard(videomap) of 5-th generation.

XtF: Strongly different the same fire and water on different videocards?
AB: There will be an essential difference of a picture between cards of 6-th and 5-th generation.

XtF: As far as characters, in particular their persons are worked, whether will be on these persons though any emotions, a pain, fear etc.?
AB: Yes. The engine gives an opportunity to manipulate bones of an obverse part of a skeleton.

XtF: Whether there is an opportunity to destroy world around i.e. to move or blow up flanks and other subjects, to blow up doors?
AB: Yes. Kreed levels in a sufficient measure will be stuffed breakable and moving objects.

XtF: In what, in your opinion, the basic chesspiece of game which has allocated game among set of others FPS consists?
AB: The high adaptability to manufacture, the thought over and logically proved plot. The picturesque main hero.

XtF: Whether there will be at game a multiuser mode and what it itself represents?
AB: Yes the multiuser mode will be. There is one essential difference from that set multi-player modes which you have got used to see in modern FPS. At us it will be possible a cooperative mode.

XtF: When to us to wait the public demo-version and what its size will be?
AB: Wait … Sometime will be.
